Before starting at Penn State, I obtained my undergraduate BSc in Geology with a minor in Biology, then a PhD from the University of Alberta and spent several years as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Carnegie Institution for Science in the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism (now Earth and Planets Laboratory).

As a natural outdoor enthusiast I love public lands like National Parks and State Parks.

My wife and I go camping as much as we can, even for quick overnight trips, and enjoy exploring the areas around where we live.

Hobbies that have stuck with me so far include fly fishing, water skiing, hiking, and hunting. Oh, and also collecting the odd rock here or there…!

I deeply value entrepreneurship and I have started a few small companies at this stage - my wife and I run a small rock artwork shop (bookends pictured) and colleagues and I have started campCOURSES, an audio production company focused on mobile-first educational products.

I am also developing a Geoscience Entrepreneurship course at Penn State to help students gain valuable perspectives on the current and future state of the geoscience industry.

I am interested in pursing opportunities in geoscience entrepreneurship, and regularly advise people in this space.

While understanding the Earth is amazing, innovative ideas in geoscience are more applicable and important than ever. Please reach out if you are interested in discussing more!
